Laparoscopic D2 dissection for gastric cancer

Qinshu Shao, Xiaojun Yu, Jin Yang

Abstract

Since laparoscopy-assisted gastrectomy (LAG) was initially reported in 1994, laparoscopic gastrectomy has been widely accepted especially in patients with early-stage gastric cancer. However, LAG for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer (AGC) has remained controversial, mainly due to its technical difficulties in systematic lymph node dissection and doubts about the effectiveness of lymphadenectomy compared to conventional open gastrectomy.
