Objective: To investigate the diagnostic value of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in preoperative Borrmann classification of gastric cancer.

Methods: Asulfur hexafluonde-filled microbubble ultrasound contrast agent and acontinuous real-time imging technique of contrast pulse sequencing were used. Two hundred and eighty-five patients with gastric cancer proved by biopsies who received preoperative CEUS examination were involved in this study, and the CEUS result was compared with postoperative pathological findings.

Results: The accuracy of CEUS indetermining the Borrmann classification of gastric cancer was 92.3% (Borrmann I: 100%, II: 90.6%, III: 92.6%, IV: 95.7%, V: 60%).

Conclusions: CEUS is a useful diagnostic method for preoperative Borrmann classification of gastric cancer.
