Objective: To assess the difference between the clinicopathological features of mucinous gastric carcinoma (MGC) and signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRC).
Methods: 224 patients diagnosed as MGC or SRC between December 2004 and December 2009 in Beijing Cancer Hospital were evaluated. The clinicopathological parameters and prognostic factors were analyzed retrospectively.
Results: The whole group included 94 MGC and 130 SRC cases. There were significant differences in sex, age, stage, tumor location, tumor size, invasion depth, lymphovascular invasion, and lymph nodes metastasis (P<0.05). Comparing with SRC patients, the overall cumulative 5-year survival of MGC was higher (48.8% vs. 44.8%), but no significant difference was found (P>0.05).
Conclusions: MGC and SRC patients have different clinicopathological features, but prognosises are similar.
